Hi i have been suffering with lack of appetite for a while, i had the same problem just after my stem  cell transplant in 2021 for Myeloma, my question is can you get an NHS prescription for Fort slip protein drinks? when i was in hospital i was given these after 7 days without eating , if anyone is currently on these i would be grateful for any information and your experience in getting them?

Cheers I hope everyone keeps as well as possible

Thanks Rob

  • Hi Lipflip5657.

Thanks for getting in touch through our online community. I’m Helen and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurse specialists on our support line. I see you’ve joined our some of our online forums; I hope you are finding it a supportive environment.

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing a lack of appetite. Nutritional supplements nay be recommended if you are not managing to eat enough or are losing weight. They come in types and many different flavours.

Your GP or cancer doctor can prescribe these for you, and it would be helpful if they could refer you to a dietician.

In the meantime, you can find helpful information on our website about how you can add more energy and protein to your food.

Our building-up diet is high in energy and protein. It is for people who have lost or are losing weight, or who can only manage to eat small amounts.

I hope you found this information helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact with us if you need further information or support.

    Best wishes

    Helen K
