Possible skin cancer (Basal-cell carcinoma)

Hiya,

On July 21st I went to the doctor to get two lesions checked.  She referred me on the urgent skin cancer pathway to get them checked by dermatology (she was concerned about one of them on my forehead possibly being a basal-cell.) but she said she would get both referred.

On August 4th I had an analytics appointment at dermatology so didn't see a dermatologist just had photos taken with the skin analytics for the one on my forehead but they couldn't do that with the one on my nose so just took pictures of it.  They said I should hear in 2 weeks once they've been reviewed.  I haven't head anything as of yet and go on holiday next week for 2 weeks so I rang the appointment line and they said that my pictures are due to be reviewed on the 19th August.  Is this likely to mean the AI didn't pick anything up with them that was skin cancer or is this kind of wait normal for review?

Thank you for getting in touch, my name is Pauline and I am one of the Cancer Information nurses on the support line.

Having investigations for a suspected skin cancer can be a worrying time. I am glad to see that you have joined our online forum for skin cancer. I hope that you are finding this helpful.

The timeframe does not tell us anything about the sample or give any indication of whether AI has picked anything up. The wait is usually down to the demand of the service in the area.

We have this information regarding cancer waiting times that you may find helpful. You could also have a look at Cancer Research’s information on cancer waiting times.

If you would like to discuss this is more detail, please feel free to give us a call on 0808 808 0000 (7days a week, 8am-8pm).

I hope this information was helpful.
