I had Primary Peritoneal Cancer treatment and am now in remission with 3 monthly checks, I was hoping the awful feeling in my feet would subside and my oncologist said neuropathy side effects should improve etc but it causes me trouble walking and my feet can be very hard and sore and it is especially annoying at night, my ties are not my own! I see that it can be an indication of diabetes? I am awaiting that bloid test… my question is what can I do to alleviate the discomfort? are there any recommended potions lotions foot socks?

  • Hello JELB,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan. My name is Helen; I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

I see that you have joined several of our online community groups and hope you find them warm and welcoming.

It was good to read that you are in remission but frustrating to learn that you are suffering with peripheral neuropathy. This is a painful and aggravating side effect of many of the chemotherapy treatments given for primary peritoneal cancer.

It's good to know that you are being investigated for any other cause, but in the meantime, I hope our information on understanding and managing the symptoms is beneficial.

If you would like to chat through the information I have sent, you are most welcome to call and speak to myself, or my specialist nurse colleagues on the support line for further information and support.

Hoping you can get some relief soon and a better night’s sleep.

    With best wishes,

    Helen

  • Thank you very much for replying to me and giving me some valuable information to help me manage the symptoms. I accidentally joined the breast cancer forum mainly to see if there were any posts on my neuropathy problems, I have left that forum as while I fully support it I had a huge amount of emails that became a little too much.  There are so few contributors on the PPC forum, a good thing in many ways.

    many thanks Jan
