Hi

I'm 56 and was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021 and have been on watch every 6 months since then. Had a scan a couple of month ago and nothing changed since the first scan i had.

I am very overweight and cant seem to lose any no matter what i do.

Would mounjaro be safe for me to try?

Thanks

Angus

  • Hi Angus

Thanks for getting in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support through our Ask An Expert platform. I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.

Losing weight can be really difficult for some. And it’s only natural, with the publicity that weight loss medicines have had recently, to wonder if this would be the right approach for you.

With any medication we would always direct to your clinical team or GP first for their advice. This is because they will know your medical history and be able to advise if this is an appropriate and safe option for you to try.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already, it might be helpful to read our recent blog, written by one of national clinical advisors, Weight loss injections and cancer.

The World Cancer Research Fund offer lots of resources for living well that might be helpful to read and you can also speak to or email their dieticians for guidance too. So, it might worth getting in touch with them.

I hope this information is helpful, and please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you require any further information or support.

    Best wishes

    Linda
