Has my 1st Chemo session 5 days ago.  Carboplatin  & Paclitaxel.  No day time side affects apart from minor dizziness.  But as soon as I go to bed my lower limbs ache (especially my foot fusion operation site) & I am too restless to sleep.  Any advice please.

  • Hi Smitgirl1

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to our online community. I hope you find it a helpful and supportive way to communicate with others. My name is Joanne and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the  Macmillan Support Line.

It’s good to hear that you have started your chemotherapy and that you are coping well with it during the day. The aches and restlessness you are experiencing could be a side effect from your chemotherapy called peripheral neuropathy.

Here on the support line, we don’t have access to your hospital records. We therefore tend to err on the side of caution.

We normally advise people that if they have a new symptom, a symptom that persists, gets worse or is changing then they must report it, especially if they are receiving chemotherapy. If you have a 24-hour contact number for your chemotherapy team you should call them. If not your consultant or specialist nurse. If you are unable to speak to anyone in your team, we recommend you contact 111 for advice and assessment.

The sooner you do this the better.

Once you have been assessed, if you would still like to ask questions or talk through ways to manage these symptoms, please do contact us again either on this forum or by calling 0808 808 000.

If there is anything else we can help you with please, feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

    Joanne, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
