Does the below picture mean that I have BCC or it's a possibility that I might? Also is BCC skin cancer or not, somethings I've read says it is but then others say no it's just a lesion. It's all confusing to me

Thankyou

  • Hi Littlemiss-ka

Welcome to the online community, my name is Sarah and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I see that you are a member of the skin cancer forum, I hope that you are finding this a safe and supportive space to share with others.

Here at the Macmillan Support line, we can give general information and support. We are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records so we can’t give personalised information. However, I will try and help you understand what a follow up letter after a referral for suspected Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) means.

Sometimes a BCC is diagnosed just by its appearance. A skin biopsy can then be performed under local anaesthetic to confirm the diagnosis. Low risk BCCs are routinely referred as long as the size and shape are not concerning.

It is understandable that this is confusing. To understand more about what this means for you, your GP would be the best person to speak with. They may also be able to help you understand how long a routine referral may take.

I hope you find this helpful. You may find it helpful to call and speak with one of our nurses free of charge on 0808 808 0000. You can also chat with us or email us.

    Best Wishes

    Sarah
