After effects of Hormone/Radiotherapy for recurrence of PC

Hi,

My husband has, within the last year, had hormone therapy (injections x 2) followed by a month of 5/7 days radiotherapy.  This was in February/March. His PSA levels afterwards were 0.02 and therefore all is now good.

My question is this, he is having awful problems with constipation and stomach cramps. In addition to this, he appears to be off his food - is this to be expected? If so, how long will this last approximately?

Thankyou in advance,

AR Suffolk

  • Hello Suffolkmum,

Thanks for contacting us. I’m Gail, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

It sounds as if your husband is experiencing symptoms which need to be assessed by his GP and appropriate treatment decided. Whilst his symptoms may be related to constipation it is important for his GP to make the diagnosis, decide what to do next and monitor him appropriately. Please get in touch with his surgery today and let them know the symptoms he is experiencing and how long they have been going on.

If you have difficulties contacting his surgery you can call NHS 111 and they will advise you.

Please get back in touch if you need any further information.

    Best Wishes,

    Gail
