Hi Dundi,
Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Specialist’s on the Macmillan Support Line.
Ivermectin is prescribed to treat worm infections in humans and Fenbendazole is an anti-parasitic agent widely used on animals in veterinary care.
Talk of using these medications as repurposed drugs for anti-cancer therapy appears to be largely driven by social media.
No large-scale clinical trials exist as yet but, some small randomised clinical trials have explored trials in petri dishes and mice which may suggest some anti-cancer properties.
Therefore, there is no strong scientific evidence base to support the use of Fenbendazole as it is not safe for human consumption and no trials have been done on humans.
Ivermectin and Fenbendazole are also not licensed as anti-cancer therapies and not recommended. It is therefore unlikely you will find a consultant in London or the UK willing to prescribe them for that reason.
Please remember not everything on social media is reliable information and can also be dangerous. Finding reliable health information online can be difficult, hopefully this link will help.
We strongly advise you discuss this further with your Consultant who may be able to suggest more suitable treatment options or clinical trial for metastatic breast cancer.
If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.
Best wishes
David, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
