I have having the worst hot flushes at the moment. I have been in Tamoxifen for 2 and a half years but the hot flushes are getting worse. I am not sleeping and hardly functioning during the day. I have 3 fans on me constantly. I have tried all the self help remedies but nothing helps. Is there any medication I can take with Tamoxifen that helps. I have heard about Venlafaxine. Is this possible? Thanks, Aarah

  • Hello Rowliegirl,

Thanks for getting in touch with us during what sounds like a very difficult and stressful time for you. I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.

I see that you are a member of our breast cancer forum. I hope you are finding this useful. You may wish to see what other people on the forum have found helpful.

It’s understandable that you are looking for ways to reduce and relieve your hot flushes after trying all the self-help remedies.

Venlafaxine and other medications may help, and I would encourage you to talk this through with your GP.  Our information on medicines for hot flushes explains this in more detail.

You mention that your flushes are affecting your sleep. You may also find this free app called Sleepio helpful.

    I hope this helps.

    Take care and best wishes,

Linda J.  (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
