Malignant Phyllodes

Hi there

In October of last year I had a malignant phyllodes tumour in my right breast, initially believed to be a fibroadenoma with diagnosis on lumpectomy. I had a right breast mastectomy as treatment.  Recently I have found another lump in the left breast and I am quite concerned, however, I am fearful that I'm overreacting.  I have already had a scare when I found a lump below my mastectomy scar line which was biopsied and found to be a dermatofibroma. I know that I'm probably being silly but I don't want to unnecessarily worry my family or be a time waster and strain an already overstretched health service.  I have researched it and I'm aware that the chances of developing another malignancy in the other breast are unlikely but I suppose what I'm wondering is if I should watch and wait or contact my team? Honestly, I'm quite terrified right now and really unsure of what to do.

Thank you in advance!

My name is Rae and I am a cancer information nurse specialist here at Macmillan Cancer Support.

Please don’t hesitate to contact your GP or breast team about your concern.  Any lump that you feel should be checked out by a professional and they can then make the decision if you need to have further investigations.

No one is going to consider that you are overreacting, or a time waster, and you certainly are not being silly.  You are doing the correct thing by checking your breast and acting on what you find.  Why don’t you give them a call when you read this response.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further information or support, our nurses would be happy to chat any concerns over with you.

    Best wishes
