Melanoma?

Hello,

I saw a gp today as I have a mole that has started to itch. It's raised brown with black area, and not quite symmetrical. It's 1cm x 6mm big. They gp took one look at it and said 100% seborrheic keratosis and that's it.

Should I be concerned he didn't look at it properly or with the correct equipment? Or am I just being paranoid.

Thank you

  • Dear Sam114,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan and welcome to the online community. My name is Denise, and I am one of the Macmillan Cancer Information Nurses on the helpline.

I am sorry to read you are experiencing some worrying symptoms. I understand you have concerns about seeing your GP about your symptoms.

GPs are well trained to look for signs of skin cancer but if you are worried about the outcome you can ask for a second opinion from a different GP.

Alternatively, if you wish you can book a private consultation with Boots. You can read more about Boots mole checking service and how to book those by clicking here.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please do get in touch with us if you have more questions. You can call us free of charge on 0808 808 0000 or you can chat to us or email us. We are here every day from 8am to 8pm.

    Best wishes,
