I know I’m asking questions you would’ve able to answer but just looking for advice.
I’ve suffered really heavy bleeding for around 10yrs or more. Never had any investigations as to why but was given some meds to help reduce bleeding.
In March I started bleeding outwith my period, then happened again the following month. Got an appointment with gp in the May. GP who examined me and said I had abnormal cervical cells and took a swap. Results came back as negative, gp said I would be referred to have these treated. As wait list to be seen is long I decided to use private health.  Saw private consultation on the 20th of June. After an internal scan she said adnormal cells weren’t causing bleeding but that my uterus had thick lining. Got a pipelle biopsy on the 27th of June.
On first appointment whilst chatting with consultant I mentioned I was going on holiday soon, so when I had my pipelle biopsy she advised me that as I was going on holiday and then she was I wouldn’t hear from her until the 25th of July.
The last few weeks have been torture and I’m so desperate to hear the results as I’m going on google and over thinking.
Do you know if there is a way I can get results from someone else, would my GP be advised of results when consultant knows them? My GP surgery are extremely difficult to get a hold of and receptions make it very difficult to gain any info but if I thought they knew info I could push for it.
sorry I know you are dealing with people who have been diagnosed and need your support more than me just looking to see if there was way to gain the results sooner rather than later.
thank you for taking time to read this

  • Dear White car,

Thank you for reaching out to Macmillan. My name is Denise, and I am one of the Macmillan Cancer Information Nurses on the helpline.

I am sorry to read you are going through some uncertain and worrying times. It is very difficult to deal with uncertainty.

There are many other reasons why the lining of the uterus can be thickened (also called endometrial hyperplasia) and are not related to cancer but nevertheless it is very daunting having to wait to find out the reason.

You mentioned you are going on holiday and therefore the consultant gave you an appointment on the 25th of July to discuss your results. Biopsy results are sent back directly to the requesting medical professional. Your GP surgery may not have the results just yet. Your consultant will have to interpret your results first and discuss treatment options if necessary.

You can try to call the secretary of your consultant and ask if you can change your appointment to a phone consultation if you are still on holiday - provided if you are happy to have this discussion over the phone. Alternatively, if you are back from your holidays, you can ask the secretary if your appointment can be brought forward.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please do get in touch with us if you have more questions. You can call us free of charge on 0808 808 0000 or you can chat to us or email us. We are here every day from 8am to 8pm.

    Best wishes,

    Denise
