Thanks for the reply David.

Your reply was very helpful and my nurse contacted me this morning.

  • Hi Toft,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the  Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to hear you have required an orchidectomy and have noticed this discolouration in the remaining testicle post-surgery.

An orchidectomy is very common intervention to diagnose testicular cancer. It is also the main treatment for testicular cancer that has not spread.

Whilst swelling and bruising may be expected following surgery I am concerned that you may be unable to distinguish this as you report colour blindness.

I am glad however that you have reported this to your Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and I am sure they will be keen to medically review your reported symptoms.

We cannot diagnose on this platform as we don’t have access to your hospital records or test results. We therefore tend to err on the side of caution and say to people, if you have a new symptom, a symptom that persists, gets worse or, is changing then you must report to you doctor or healthcare team for review.

There is a risk of complications following any surgery and the possible problems depend on the type of surgery you have.

These include infection, blood clots, bleeding from wound and blood collection. It is strongly advised you make contact with your team today for medical review without delay.

Sometimes people find strength in talking to others who may be in similar circumstances. Orchid and CRUK are also very good sources of information and support.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

    David, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
