Had a ct scan and was told I've got irregular mural thickening of the caecum and assending colon.  I was told it could be cancer. I have to have a, camera in the neither regions. The dr in A&E was very nice. I went in with suspected pancreatitis or gall stones. The pai  is very sore, as the pain does not leave me, it also feels like I've been punched and it goes through to my back.

Can anyone help me as I  don't know what to think, I'm on very strong  medication plus gaviscon liquid.

Any help would be well appreciated

Thank you meimei.

  • Thanks for getting in touch. My name’s Donna, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

It is never easy to be told you may have cancer. The doctor from A&E should refer you for a colonoscopy as part of an urgent suspected cancer referral. Not everyone who is referred will have a cancer diagnosis but if it is cancer, cancer diagnosed at an early stage is often more successful.

I’m sorry to hear your pain is very sore and does not leave you Meimei. This can be very disheartening. It can have an emotional toll too and affect your day to day living. We would encourage you to speak to your GP or NHS 111 today. They can assess new and worsening pain and give you the right support and adjust medication as needed.

I hope this information is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact with us if you need further information or support.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your quick reply,  im waiting to hear from the areas that you mentioned.  I am worried as ive been trying to become more healthy. Ive lost 7½ stone over 2 years. The pain is the worst, I think i could cope if it wasn't for this pain that doesn't leave me at all. I will speak to my GP, but getting an appointment is like digging for gold. I don't understand why I get upper gastric pain when it's the bowel, or is it deferred pain. I had a ct scan done in 2019 and that was clear, so whatever has developed has done so since then.

If I ring the number that you've put , to talk to someone, is it okay that I haven't been given a definite cancer diagnosis.

    Thank you once again

  • Hi Miemie,

Thanks for getting back in touch.

If you’d like to give us a call, we’d be more than happy to speak with you. There is no need to have a definite cancer diagnosis. The sheer worry alone can be all consuming.  It can be helpful as it allows us to privately support you, rather than chat on an open forum.

We look forward to speaking with you.

    Best wishes,
