Had my results today and I’m gutted. Was told initially my lymph nodes looked clear on ultrasound but just told the sentinel lymph node tested positive and they also didn’t get a clear margin. Now g to have another shave of tissue removed and an alnd procedure done. The tumour was 23mm and grade 1. I’m so scared  xxxx

    I am sorry to read that your result showed that the lymph node was positive and you now require the axillary lymph node dissection (ALND)  It is understandable that you are feeling gutted and scared. Anyone with a diagnosis of cancer will experience many different emotions. It is important that you reach out for support.

    Some people find talking to friends and family is all the support they need. For others talking to others who are experiencing something similar to you really helps. So, continue to reach out to our online community for support. Breast Cancer Now also have Someone Like Me which aims to match you with a trained volunteer who’s had a similar experience to you.

    If you have a breast care nurse you can reach out to them for further support, they will be able to explain your diagnosis and treatment to you as well as support you emotionally. They may also be able to refer you for support from a counsellor or clinical psychologist if you feel this may be of benefit to you.

    Maggie’s is a charity who offer support free to anyone with cancer, you can search to see if there is a centre near you or receive support online. You can also explore local cancer support services on our website. CAN-EMPOWER is an online resource to help manage the psychological and emotional challenges of living with cancer.

    It is important to prioritise self-care when you have a cancer diagnosis. There is lots of advice about this on Macmillan’s Wellbeing Hub.
