Family member currently receiving chemotherapy (round 4 of 6). It has been suggested to me (as main carer) and through some research that taking Ivermectin and Fenbendazole alongside the chemo can significantly reduce cancer cell production - any views on this please - thank you

  • Dear KT591,

Thank you for getting in touch with us, and welcome to our online community. My name is Annerose I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses here at the Macmillan Cancer Support line.

I can see you are looking for advice regarding Ivermectin and Fenbendazole for a family member who is currently undergoing chemotherapy. It sounds like you have already done some research on this, and you will have seen that both these medications original use is as an antiparasitic drug, used to treat infestations including head lice, scabies, in humans.

Even though the internet mentions research articles that mentioned possible benefits of these drugs in cancer treatment, it is also recommended that further research and trials are necessary.

We would not recommend using any supplements, medication, herbal or other before discussing this with your family member’s oncology team first.

Any drug can have side effects and/or interactions with the chemotherapy regime your family member is currently receiving. Fenbendazole for example can affect the liver function.

It is important to discuss any additional medications and supplements with the oncology team first.

You might find this information useful: find reliable health information online.

I hope this has been helpful, but please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you need any further information or support.

    Best wishes and take care

    Annerose (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
