  • Hi Happychat,

Thanks for getting back in touch. My name is Jo and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

I hope your chemotherapy is going well so far, and that the symptoms you were experiencing after your first treatment have now improved.

It is understandable that you are questioning whether your daughters and grandkids can come to see you whilst you are undergoing treatment. There is lots to think about when you’re having chemotherapy.

You do not need to stop seeing friends and family unless they are feeling unwell or have an infection. Here is some further information about chemotherapy and your social life that you might find helpful.

If you do decide to sit in the garden with your family, it’s important to protect your skin. Some chemotherapy drugs may make you more sensitive to the sun and cause it to burn more easily both during treatment and for several months after. Here is some further information from our website about sun safety and cancer treatment.

I see that you have joined a couple of forums on our online community, and hope that you are finding these supportive. There are also a number of other ways that we can offer help and support.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch. You can speak with the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or email us.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Best wishes,

    Jo
