Hi there, is it safety take magnesium glycinate, malate & citrate alongside exemestane?
Hi CXarolann26,
Thank you for getting in touch. My name is Fiona and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists here on the Macmillan Support Line. Welcome to the Online Community, I hope that you find it to be a safe and supportive space for you.
Unfortunately there is very little research conducted in to using food supplements after a cancer diagnosis or if they can be taken safely with exemestane so we can’t advise on this. If you are considering starting a supplement we would always recommend that you discuss this first with your Breast Care Nurse.
We often find that there is a lot of anecdotal evidence found on some of the forums. We have an active Breast Cancer forum as do Breast Cancer Now.
The Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSL) has a comprehensive database on herbal supplements and they’re known side effects and interactions which you might find useful.
Magnesium can be found in green, leafy veg and a well-balanced diet is important to healthy functioning. Penny Brohn have some useful resources on nutrition and eating well after cancer which might be helpful.
You haven’t mentioned why you are considering taking magnesium supplements so please do contact us again and we can try to help. You’re welcome to give us a call to talk about what’s happening over the phone with one of the nurses on our Support Line. We often find that we can help people more after doing this as it allows us to ask questions about your individual situation.
I hope this information helps to guide you.
Best wishes,
Fiona S
Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
