I had surgery recently due to late stage ovarian cancer. After being discharged from hospital, surgical staples were removed two days ago, however there are lots of leakages from the wound now, there is also small gaps opening and infection. I am desperate for help in dealing with this, however couldn’t find a nurse to check the wound because my GP practice doesn’t have a nurse. Just wondering how to get some help from macmillan nurses? Thanks a lot, Ying

  • Hi Ying

Thanks for getting in touch. I’m Sarah, one of the cancer information nurses that works on the Macmillan support line.

I can see you have joined the cancer treatment forum and hope you are finding this a supportive space.

I am sorry to read that you have lots of leakage from the wound, small gaps opening and infection after your recent surgery. This is something which need’s reviewing.

As you have new symptoms it is always important to report these to your GP or hospital team. This allows them to make a full assessment and decide if you require medication or further investigations to manage these symptoms. They would want to hear from you and know if you are struggling.

As it is the weekend, if you are still concerned or have increasing symptoms we would urge you to contact the 111 services or call 999. The 111 services can advise or arrange help if this is needed.

It may also be helpful to chat in more detail with one of our nurses, by giving our support line a call. We often find we can explain our answers in a bit more detail over the phone, giving you the opportunity to ask more questions if needed.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah
