Good afternoon,

I had my chemotherapy up till 24th September. Still having Immunotherapy. I am not sure how long does it takes to have your period back. I had Zoladex during my treatment. How can I find out more about this please. Very concern with the hot flashes I am still experiencing.

Thanks for the support Heart

  • Good afternoon Not,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community.

My name’s Karla, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

It’s natural to wonder when your periods will come back. Particularly when you’ve had ovarian suppression with zoladex aiming to preserve your fertility.

Reports from other ladies online said it can take months for the hot flushes to improve.

As we don’t have access to your medical records and have limited information about your diagnosis and treatment, it’s difficult for us to guide you about this. However, we can point you in the right direction.

It’s hard to know exactly when or how your fertility will recover. Your consultant is the best person to talk to. They can explain when your fertility might come back and what to expect. Fertility tests are possible. Your consultant can also refer you to a fertility specialist for further discussions.

Your consultant can also talk through what impact your ongoing immunotherapy may have on your fertility. Pregnancy is not usually recommended when you’re taking immunotherapy as the drug may harm a developing baby.

Sometimes it can be good to talk through what’s happening with us. On our helpline we offer a variety of support where you can talk through what’s going on and how you’re feeling.

    Take care and best wishes,

    Karla (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
