I've started bleeding after my 4th session of radiotherapy and not long ago had a menstrual cycle so dont understand why I'm bleeding.

I asked the radiotherapy team if this is a symptom they said no but i dont understand why I'm bleeding. Has this happened to anyone else.

Haven't started tamoxifen yet so it can't have anything to do with that.

  • Hello Kemeisha,

Thanks for contacting us. I’m Gail, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

It sounds like you are worried about the unexpected bleeding you’re experiencing, especially as your radiotherapy team don’t think it’s related to your current treatment. It is difficult to know what has caused this, so I suggest you ask to be reviewed by your Oncologist, if you are continuing to visit the hospital for radiotherapy.

You can check with the radiographers whether they can arrange an appointment or you may have to contact your Oncology Nurse Specialist or the Oncologist’s secretary for them to arrange it.

If you are not due to attend the hospital and the bleeding is heavy or showing no improvement you should contact your GP/111 for advice.

I hope this information is helpful. Do reach out again if you need any further information. You can also call us on the Macmillan Support line on 0808 808 0000, 7 days a week 8am to 8pm.

    Best wishes,

    Gail
