Morning I'm currently having maintenance therapy with the drug Rituxmab. I was diagnosed with NHL May 2024 and had Chemo. I started my maintenance in Oct 2024 for 2 years.

I'm query is about travel insurance and if the maintenance needs to declared. Many thanks Iris.

  • Hello Iris

My name is Adele and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line. I can see that you have joined the follicular lymphoma and travel insurance forum and hope that they have been helpful and supportive.

Travel insurance companies ask about any pre-existing medical conditions, which would include your diagnosis last year and any treatment that you are currently on. This would include the rituximab, as it is a cancer treatment.  It is always important to tell them of these as if you do not, and you later need to make a claim, they may refuse to pay or cancel your policy.

Money Helper has a directory of companies that offer travel insurance to those with pre-existing medical conditions and the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) can also be a good starting point for finding a suitable company.

We have a specific page on our website related to travel insurance, which includes a list of things your insurance provider might want to know.  You may also find it helpful to read our information on planning for your trip, which gives some hints and tips for travelling.

I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Adele
