Hi, I've been told I need a mastectomy single. I've been told she'll pop an implant in. Will she put one in both boobs to make them natch or just the one?

Hi Jules123
Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is Hilary, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the Macmillan Support Line.
I see that you will be undergoing a mastectomy and will be having a reconstruction with an implant
It is usual practice just to offer an implant on the side of the body where the mastectomy has been performed. The surgeon will take care to make sure the implant will be the best match for your other breast. There may be certain circumstances and exceptions where both breasts might be considered for implants. This would be something we would recommend you discuss with your consultant.
Here at Macmillan, we are independent of the NHS and do not have access to medical records or information. We are therefore unable to give personalised advice. Perhaps a chat with your Breast Care Nurse will help with any questions specific to your circumstances.
You can read more about Breast reconstruction with implants and what to expect here and here
There is some useful information here that will help you following your surgery with implant.
I note that you haven’t joined any of our forums yet, you might find some peer support and useful information there.
I hope this information is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch by email, webchat or phone
