You maybe able to advise, I read somewhere the other day getting a tattoo done helps with the mental side of having prostate cancer.  Back to my question,  I completed my prostate cancer radiotherapy treatment on May 2nd,  luckily no major side effects,  only feeling tired and no stamina quickly,  I went to try and book a tattoo yesterday,  she already knew I'd just had radiotherapy so she checked if I'd spoken to a member of the radiotherapy team for advice,  which I hadn't,  rang my hospital where my radiotherapy was done, promised to ring back yesterday,  no call. The earliest booking to have tattoo done is middle of July , Is it OK to have one or not ?

  • Hello Terrence M,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan. My name is Michael, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

It is good to hear that you have completed your radiotherapy for prostate cancer and that you are not experiencing any major side effects.

Some people do get tired, especially towards the end of treatment. It may last for a couple of months or longer. Get plenty of rest. Try to balance this with regular physical activity, such as short walks.

Some people find that a tattoo can be a great way to express themselves and can feel empowering.

If this is something you wish to do, you really do need to confirm this with your clinical team. They have access to your medical records and will be able to advise if this is appropriate for you, and if so when the best time would be to get one done.
