Shoulder pain

I had a lumpectomy in October 2024 and a second in December 2024 as they had not got the margins.

this was for Stage 1 breast cancer.

5 sessions of radiotherapy and 5 boosts completed in February 2025.

I am now experiencing pain in my shoulderblade.

can you please advise?

    Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community.

    My name is Carole and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

    It’s only natural to look for advice about a new pain.

    We would recommend that you let your hospital specialist team, GP or 111 know today.

    For some people, pain can last for a while after surgery or radiotherapy. This information from the Breast Cancer Now website explains why this can happen, and what might help.

    However, like us, they recommend that any new pain is assessed.

    If you are concerned that you need to be seen straight away, you should go to A&E.

    If you would like to talk this over in more detail with one of our nurses, please don’t hesitate to give us a call, or you can chat to us online, if you prefer.
