  • Hi

Thanks for getting in touch. My name’s Louise, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

There are waiting time targets for the diagnosis of cancer in the different UK nations. However, each hospital’s situation is different. Because we don’t have access to medical records here on the support line it’s difficult for us to say why your appointment is sooner than you expected.

After a biopsy is taken, the results are reported then discussed at the multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting, which is usually held every week or every 2 weeks. Following that, you will be invited to clinic to discuss the results.

Waiting for results can be a difficult time, and it’s not unusual to feel anxious or on edge, like you describe. Feeling this way is a normal reaction to an uncertain situation. It’s important to look after yourself.

MIND has some tips for distracting yourself and techniques to help you cope if you are feeling on edge. You can also speak with your GP if you are struggling with how you are feeling.

It might also help to talk to us. One of our nurses would be happy to talk things through.

    Best wishes

    Louise
