Hi recently diagnosed with womb cancer Stage 1.

Radical Hysterectomy booked for 8th May.

I am going through the menopause and was having bleeds which was why I got it checked out.

I'm still bleeding and is this normal because of my diagnosis ?

  • Hi Nettie6970.

Thanks for getting in touch through our online community. I’m Helen and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurse specialists on our support line. I see you’ve joined our womb cancer forum; I hope you are finding it a supportive environment.

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad to hear it is stage one and you have a date for surgery.

Vaginal bleeding can be the first sign of womb cancer, and changes to your periods is usually the first symptom of starting the menopause (the perimenopause), so it’s difficult to know if one or both these might be causing the bleeding.

At Macmillan Cancer Support, we don’t have access to NHS medical records or individual hospital teams,

If your team are not aware of these symptoms, it would be advisable to speak to them and let them know. It’s probably nothing to worry about, but they can monitor the situation and see you if necessary.

If the bleeding becomes heavy or continuous, or if you experience any breathing difficulties or pain, please don’t hesitate to call 111 or 999 for an urgent medical assessment.

I hope this was helpful and that your surgery goes well, but don’t forget that if you would like to chat with one of nurses about your situation or have other questions you are welcome to call us.

    Best wishes

    Helen K
