Hi

My husband had a CT scan (on kidneys) with intravenous contrast, at about 10 a.m yesterday morning. During the night, he was up with vomiting / diarrhea. Could this have been a side effect?

 Thank you

  • Dear

Thank you for contacting us here at Macmillan Cancer Support.  My name is Rae and I am a Cancer Information Nurse Specialist on the Support Line.

There is a possibility that it was the contrast used during the scan that caused an adverse effect, or it could be for another reason, therefore it is important that your husband is assessed today, especially if he is still having episodes of vomiting and diarrhoea.  Please call NHS 111

You are welcome to call our nurses on the support line so that they can ask questions and gather further information about your husband’s diagnosis and treatment.  They can make an assessment, but as we are not connected to the NHS and it is a bank holiday today, any care will have to be implemented through either calling 111 or attending your local A&E.

Once your husband is settled, it would be great to have the opportunity to talk to you and ensure that you are receiving enough support whilst your husband is unwell.  Having a husband with a cancer diagnosis can be a very challenging time, and talking can help you process your emotions

    Best wishes

  • Thank you! He's okay today. Tired (understandably) but the sickness etc has passed. We will contact the Dr in the morning, just to let them know.

    Thank you again.
