Hi
Needing an enema every 3 days.
Anyone know if Castor Oil heat packs can be helpful. Does the oil penetrate the skin and is that ok for the liver?
It would seem peritoneal disease is compromising the bowel.
Thanks A

Hi AHG,
Thank you for getting in touch with us, and welcome to our online community. My name is Michael and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists here on the Macmillan Support Line.
I see that you have joined our Bile duct cancer forum. I hope that you are finding it helpful and supportive.
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing serious constipation and needing an enema every 3 days. There can be several reasons why you have this symptom.
Unfortunately, on this platform, we cannot provide people with advice regarding medications, as we do not have access to people’s medical records and do not know the cause of the problem.
However, I do need to let you know that with any new, worsening or changing symptoms, we would always strongly recommend that you contact your GP, your hospital team, or dial NHS 111 immediately. They will be able to assess you and provide or recommend any necessary treatment.
Constipation, left untreated, can be extremely serious. If you feel that your condition is ever life threatening, then dial 999.
I hope this has been helpful.
Please do not hesitate to get back in touch with us. Often it is easier to discuss things over the phone. The number to call is 0808 808 0000 and we are open from 8am to 8pm every day. Press option 1 then 3 to speak to a nurse.
Best wishes and take care
Michael (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
