I have secondary lung cancer in both lungs, awaiting date for surgery, however about 4 weeks ago I noticed a small lump on my jawline just under my ear. I went to the Drs and told him I was due another CT scan next week and he told me he would phone oncologist and get my neck included in the scan….i got the scan last Wednesday 26th March, the lump is not visible to the eye but I can feel that it’s definitely got bit bigger and putting pressure on side of face and can feel behind my eye…..should I phone Doctors or Oncologist again to mention this, or just wait for results from CT scan ?? Getting really worried, I have no other symptoms to say it’s infection etc.

  • Dear

Thanks for getting in touch with Macmillan cancer Support during what sounds like an understandably unsettling time. My name is Linda, I’m one of the information nurses from our Support Line.

We would always suggest that the best course of action, when you notice any new or changing symptoms, is to contact your health care team. This way it gives them the opportunity to assess whether any further assessments or intervention are needed.

If you have a clinical nurse specialist it is good idea to contact them. They can liaise with your specialist to let them know that the lump feels bigger and is causing facial pressure. If you don’t have a nurse, and have their contact details, there would be no harm in contacting the oncologist or their secretary directly. And if you don’t have their details the hospital switchboard should be able to get you through to them.

And, in addition, it would be helpful to let your GP know too

Hopefully You will be able to speak to someone soon to help reduce the worry that you have just now.

Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.

The Macmillan Support Line offers practical, clinical, financial and emotional support. You can call us free from landlines and from most mobile phone networks on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am – 8pm.

    Best wishes, Linda
