  • Hi Carlie44,

I am Sharon, one of the nurses on the Macmillan Cancer Support Line.

I am pleased you feel like you can reach out to us for support. It is completely understandable that you are struggling with the uncertainty of waiting for biopsy results.

At the moment, we don’t know what you are dealing with and it’s about managing your emotions day to day until you get your results. The results will confirm if there are cancer cells present and how it can be treated.

It’s understandable that you want to find information, but searching online isn’t always helpful as the information you find may not be relevant to your situation.

It may be useful for you to get in touch with your GP or the breast care clinic to speak to one of the nurses about your level of anxiety. They will want to be aware of this so they can offer emotional support at this time, especially as you are feeling unwell with the worry.

I would strongly encourage you to contact us so you can talk to a nurse. We can’t give you specific information as we are not attached to the NHS, but people often find it helps to talk things through with someone.

If you don’t want to speak on the phone you could use webchat instead or you can use this search to find the closest Macmillan support and information centre to you for face to face support.

This self-help guide explains anxiety and how it escalates. This along with audio-relaxation guides and self-help techniques on the website ‘Every Mind Matters’ may help you to manage your emotions in the moment if you begin to feel your anxiety escalating.

I hope this is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to call us if you think it will help

    Take care

    Sharon Ayres
