Going on holiday

Hi, I'm coming to the end of my 6 month chemo treatment for Follicular Lymphoma this week and would like to plan a holiday. My consultant confirmed it should be OK to go after a 3 week recovery but stick to somewhere within Europe. Before I started my chemo I was told not to spend any time in the sun but I'm now wondering how extra careful I need to be now I've finished?

Thanks,

Pete

  • Dear Pete,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan. My name is Denise, and I am one of the Macmillan Cancer Information Nurses on the helpline.

I am sorry to read you have been diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma but pleased to hear your treatment worked, allowing you to be able to go on holiday abroad.

As we do not have access to NHS medical records, it is difficult for us to give specific advice. However, the general rule is, if you have received chemotherapy you need to be careful and avoid exposing yourself to harmful effects of the sun. It is unclear from your message which treatment you have received but some treatments can increase your chances of developing skin cancer or can increase your sensitivity to sun.

If we may suggest get in touch with your Haematology Cancer Nurse Specialist who will be able to advise you on your individual risk factors, but if you wish you can read more about Sun safety and cancer treatment by clicking here

I hope you find this information helpful. Please do get in touch with us if you have more questions. You can call us free of charge on 0808 808 0000 or you can chat to us or email us. We are here every day from 8am to 8pm.

    Best wishes,
