Can’t get no sense

Hi guys, which profession would receive a 2ww referral? It’s been a few weeks now and when I’m calling physio as they’re the ones who did the referral, I can’t get them to get back to me with any answers. Basically it’s been confirmed via MRI and ultrasound and on the day of my ultrasound they did a biopsy the same day. I have a nerve tumour on my leg which is extremely painful my physio rung me a few weeks ago sounding very concerned but also lied a little at the same time ‘we’re still unsure of what it is but I am doing you an urgent referral to another hospital who has the specialists if you’ve not heard back within 2 weeks call me and I will chase it up’ I’ve called him a few times and no response. I can chase it up myself if I knew which profession I’m looking for at the new hospital! I can’t even find who will be receiving my biopsy results no one is telling me anything and I’m just purely frustrated at this point! I know it’s a tumour as the guy who performed my ultrasound already told me that’s why he did the biopsy while I was there he told me that  my biopsy results would go back to my referred party which would be physio but that department is why I’m here hopefully seeking some knowledge

  • Hi MBL,

Thank you for contacting us. I’m Lorna one of the cancer information nurse specialists on the support line.

    Welcome to the online community.

I’m sorry to hear that you are not managing to reach the physiotherapist who requested your referral for another hospital. You are right in that the person making the referral should be the one to follow this up for you.

You don’t mention if this is a community physiotherapist or one who works in a hospital setting. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to say who is dealing with your referral. The person making it will be able to tell you which hospital and department they made the referral to. The hospital should then get in touch with you and send an admission letter when your appointment has been made.

It might help to get in touch with the physiotherapy department directly to find out why they have not got back in touch. Your GP can also help you with this. They can assess any pain you have and follow up referrals for you too.

If you are unhappy with the wait you can speak to the patient advice and liaison service (PALS) who offer confidential advice and support with healthcare.

It can be a frustrating and anxious time waiting to hear about results from tests and investigations.

I hope this information helps, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch with us if you have any more questions.

    Take care,

    Lorna
