It has cost us a lot of money and concerned we’re going to lose alot with all the changes. Any advice appreciated

  • Hi Tink,

Thanks for getting in touch and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I’m Heidi one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line. I am glad that you have found our breast cancer forum, breast cancer for the under 50’s forum and diagnosed at a young age forum, I hope you are finding them supportive.

It is understandable that you would prefer to postpone your wedding until after you have completed your treatment. I can appreciate though that you want to make sure you have rebooked at the best possible time, without the risk of any more delays.

Treatment decisions depend on several factors which include your individual diagnosis, and of course your personal feelings and choices. Please feel comfortable talking to your breast care team about what your treatment plan may be. Sometimes this might not be confirmed until after you have had surgery but having an understanding of what might be suggested, and time scales, will help to guide you.

When making decisions about rebooking your wedding it might help to take into account that sometimes there can be unexpected delays to treatment. This again will depend on the type of treatment you will be having. For example someone may have a cycle of chemotherapy delayed if they become unwell, to give the body time to recover before the next cycle is given. You may want to think about some overall recovery time for yourself once you have completed all your treatment.

Keeping as well as possible throughout treatment and recovery has so many benefits and can help you to feel in control.

It seems so unfair that you would lose money by postponing your wedding, I hope that you are able to rebook without any extra cost to yourselves.

I hope the information provides a starting point and I wish you the very best with the next steps.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch again if we can support you further.

    Best wishes

    Heidi
