Hello Looly66,
Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Megan, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.
I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with Vulval intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) and wish you all the best for your upcoming surgery.
I can see you have joined and been actively engaging in the Vulva cancer forum and I hope you have been finding the community informative and supportive. Within the forum I have come across others who speak about their personal experiences of surgery for VIN 3, and I think experience sharing is a great way to prepare for what to expect and get tips for recovery from those with a lived experience.
Unfortunately, I cannot specifically advise which pain relief to request however do encourage you to ask your hospital team prior to or on the day of your surgery about the pain relief you can expect in addition to any post-op instructions for your recovery, including pain relief.
Here is some further general information on recovery from vulva surgery that I hope you find useful. In addition to information on painkillers there are tips for when you are at home and keeping comfortable.
I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.
The Macmillan Support Line offers practical, clinical, financial and emotional support. You can call us free from landlines and from most mobile phone networks on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am – 8pm.
Best wishes, Megan
