My mum has a brain tumour and does not have long left to live.  Because I am going away for a week, my step Dad is not letting me see my mum anymore.  He has blocked my number so I cannot even call to check on her.  They live in Norfolk and I'm in Hertfordshire so it's at least 2 hours away so I can't just go round whenever.  I would really appreciate some advice on what I can do to be able to see my mum again she dies.

  • Hello KLM

Thank you for contacting Macmillan. My name is Helen, I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

    Welcome to the online community.

I was extremely sorry to learn that your mum has a brain tumour and does not have long to live. I was also very sad to read that your stepdad is not allowing you to see your mum. What an upsetting and distressing situation you are in.

It is very hard to know how to advise you, KLM. Your situation is very much a family issue, and we are a team of cancer nurse specialists here at Macmillan, rather than family counsellors.

I wonder if you might be better supported by contacting Family Line. You can call them, or chat online for emotional support and practical advice. You can contact them today.

Please do look after yourself and I sincerely hope the situation can be resolved to allow you to see your mum again.

    With best wishes, Helen
