Can You become hpv positive again after being clear after having a  Lletz procedure for high risk hpv Cin1?

  • Hi Shikisha,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. I’m Barbara one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line.

Here in the Macmillan Support line, we do not have access to NHS records therefore it is not possible to be specific to your circumstances.

It is possible to test positive for high risk HPV again after being cleared following a LLETZ (large loop excision of the transformation zone) procedure for CIN1. HPV is a very common virus and while your immune system can often clear it over time, there is always a chance of reinfection or reactivation of a previous infection.

The NHS website offers more information about HPV, how it is spread and how to protect yourself against HPV.  Reactivation is also possible because HPV can sometimes remain dormant in the body and become detectable again later, especially if the immune system is weakened.

To reduce the risk of recurrence, it’s important to maintain regular cervical screening as recommended by the NHS, consider HPV vaccination if eligible and support your immune system through a healthy lifestyle.  If you have concerns, speaking with your GP or practice nurse can provide further reassurance and guidance.

Finally, please don’t hesitate to call us on the Macmillan Support Line if you need further advice or support.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes
