She fast tracked my urine and on form it said fast tracked for suspected gynalogical cancer. I am so scared , I can’t eat, sleep and so worried coz now I have it in my head I have cancer. I’m a single mum and worried I’m gonna die.

  • Hi Kimmy43,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to hear the worry, fear and anxiety this situation has caused you. However, I am glad you attended your GP to report this postmenopausal bleeding.

It is reassuring to know your doctor has referred you on to the gynaecological team for further investigations.

As it stands just now you do not have a cancer diagnosis.

They have fast tracked your appointment, so you don’t have a delay in seeing a specialist. They will aim to get to the route cause of why you are experiencing these symptoms.

It is necessary to rule in or out exactly what is going on as there can be many conditions with similar symptoms. For example, inflammation and thinning of the vaginal lining, cervical or womb polyps or a thickened womb lining which can be caused by hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Going for tests or waiting to meet a specialist can be a worrying time. People often feel anxious while they are waiting to find out more.

It is important to remember that symptoms do not usually mean you have cancer. But you may still need treatment.

If a person does have cancer, then the earlier this is found the better.

We strongly advise you have a further chat with your GP regards just how much this is affecting you with anxiety and unable to eat or sleep.

If anxiety is an ongoing issue you might want to have a look at Anxiety UK, SHOUT or the Samaritans.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you for reply, people have been kind on here and have eased my mind , I’ve always been an over thinker and worrier and think the worst in everything.

  • Also my bleeding is quite heavy, it’s like how my periods once where before the menopause started. So that’s a worry too.

  • Hi Kimmy43,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the  Macmillan Support Line.

Glad to hear you have found good support from our online community forum. I hope this will help bring you strength going forward.

Just to be clear, we are unable to diagnose on this platform as we don’t have access to your hospital records or test results. We therefore tend to err on the side of caution.

We normally advise people that if they have a new symptom, a symptom that persists gets worse or, is changing then they must report to their doctor in the first instance, so they can physically assess and best manage from there.

If you feel this symptom is getting worse and you are unable to see the GP then you should call 111.

It may also be an idea to give our Support line a call on 0808 808 0000, if you feel that may help.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.
