Hi I need some advice and help on this please, I have recently been to the GP with a sore throat, pain in throat , problems eating as pain sometimes, I then got a 2 week referral and went to ENT specialist at the nearest hospital. I was seen and had a camera through my nose, nothing was seen abnormal but i was sent for a MRI with contrast and a floroscopy last monday and Tuesday, they rang me on friday and booked an appointment for tomorrow, I know its not going to be good news, I am worried about when i tell family, and also im worried about my husband as his dad is having end of life care from cancer, Im worried its going to make him ill. Im worried what is going to happen tomorrow too.

  • Dear modhead

Thank you for contacting us here at Macmillan Cancer Support.  My name is Rae and I am a Cancer Information Nurse Specialist

It sounds like you have a lot going on at the moment.  The important thing is modhead, that you have sought help for the symptoms that you are experiencing. It may not seem like the right time to be adding to what is going on in your family life, but your own health is always the number one priority.

No one can predict what tomorrow can bring, or the news that they will tell you.  The news may not be the one that you are expecting.  There are other reasons that you may have been experiencing a sore throat and eating difficulties, apart from cancer.

If the news is that you have a form of cancer, we are there to support you and help you find your way.  Please keep in touch with us, you can speak to our nurses on the support line after your news tomorrow and chat through the above questions in further depth.  We have some general information regarding being worried about cancer.

Please know modhead, that you cannot make your husband ill.  Your husband will want to support you, as I am sure that you are supporting him.  He can certainly speak to us about his dad receiving end of life care.  Such things can make us feel overwhelmed, and talking to professionals and asking for support can help you and him find the priorities for each day.  We have information about seeking help for emotions and how you and he can find help.

Please do let us know how you go on tomorrow and do feel that you can pick up the phone if you still need support.

    Best wishes

    Rae, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
