Hi SaraT,
Thanks for getting in touch and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I’m Heidi one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line.
Chemotherapy can cause skin reactions so it’s very important if you experience any unwanted side-effects as a result of treatment then you must make your team aware straight away. They are always best placed to assess and manage symptoms.
We would always advise with any new or worsening symptoms that you contact your chemotherapy support line, specialist team or NHS 111 today to be assessed urgently.
We are unable to diagnose on this platform and we want you to keep safe, any reactions are important to report to determine the underlying cause. Your team may also want to rule out any skin infection. Small infections can become serious or even life-threatening very quickly for people having chemotherapy if their immune system is compromised.
Your specialist team, CNS or chemotherapy team will be able to advise what skin care routine is most appropriate for you with the type of treatment you are having.
You might also want to talk either with a Macmillan Pharmacist or a Macmillan Beauty Advisor for advice on the most gentle products, however please do still check with your specialist team that anything recommended is suitable for you.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch again if we can support you further.
Best wishes
Heidi
