  1. Hello, I'm hoping to find out the answer to a question that's been driving me nuts all day.
  2. I've had a private Ca 15-3 blood test done, my result was 6 ( keep on getting different answers from Google) please could I find out if this is a normal result? Would make things easier knowing either way
  • Hello Mima,

Thanks for reaching out to us at Macmillan and welcome to our online community. My name is Suzanne and I am one of the cancer information nurse specialists .

I can appreciate that getting your CA 15-3 blood test result without an explanation of what it means must be concerning for you.

Firstly, it’s important to say that, although CA 15-3 is a tumour marker test used to either diagnose or monitor a breast cancer, other non-cancerous conditions can also cause the levels to rise. Therefore, it is not reliable and should only be used alongside more detailed investigations.

Also, what is considered to be a normal result can vary according to circumstances, so it is important that you ask someone who knows your full clinical picture.

As we don’t have access to your clinical records to be able to understand your situation, we would always recommend that you discuss your results with your GP or the specialist who requested the test.

I do hope that you are able to discuss your result with the right person soon Mima. Once you know more, please reach out to us again if we can support you further.

    Best wishes and take care,

    Suzanne, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
