Hi, I currently have muscle invasive bladder cancer and I am starting my chemo treatment on 7/1

i have no idea what to expect, or how to prepare, or even what I need to take with me on the day.

I would be grateful if you could possibly furnish me with some information that you think may help me. It’s all a little overwhelming really.

many thanks X

  • Hello MissMabel,

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to our online community. I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.

It’s common to feel overwhelmed after receiving a cancer diagnosis and as the chemotherapy treatment approaches.

You may find our tips for getting organised for cancer treatment, chemotherapy and chemotherapy for bladder cancer helpful.

I would encourage you to ask your cancer consultant and/or nurse if they can talk you through what to expect and provide you with some written information about the chemotherapy unit that you are attending. Normally this explains what to expect on the day and what to take with you.

It’s helpful to wear comfortable clothes, warm socks & take a shawl or small throw in case you feel chilly. You can take your favourites snacks and some water. You may wish to listen to some music while you are there, so if you can take a phone or tablet.

Also useful to take a book, magazines or a puzzle book to help pass the time.

Some people like to have someone with them for support if it’s possible. It’s worth checking if the unit allows you to have someone with you.

Our online community has a bladder cancer forum, some people find it invaluable to share their feelings and experiences with others in a similar situation.

If you feel able to, you may wish to talk directly to one of our nurses on the support line. If you think this may help, please call on the number below.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes

Linda J, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
