Had very heavy menstrual bleeding for years, the non-hormonal coil was blamed for this. Strings became lost Jan 2022, Gp, nurse and sexual health clinic could not remove.  Referred for scan which was done in March 2023. Coil in situ, endometrium was thickened with heterogeneous lining, referred to gynecology. June 2024 coil removed and told to give it a few months to see if bleeding calmed down. It has not. Referred back to gynecology, TVS performed Dec14th. Enlarged uterus, heterogeneous lining, fibroids seen and polyp with hyperechoic area. Endometrium 20mm. Referred to gynecology with 2 week wait, scan report stated urgency-critical, suggestive of endometrial cancer. Apart from GP telling me I was being referred for a 2ww on the 16th Dec I have not heard anything yet. Today, my referral has disappeared from my NHS app. What does this mean? Do they not want to see me? I can't continue with this level of pain and bleeding, a super plus tampon leaks after 30mins and the pain has lead me to tears. I am a teacher and am having time off as I cannot stay in a classroom for long enough between break periods. I don't was a cancer diagnosis but I know I need treatment urgently. What should I do!?

  • Dear

Thanks for getting in touch with our online community, during what sounds like an uncertain time for you. I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.

This might be a technical issue with the app but we would encourage you to get back in touch with your GP on Monday. This to find out if they have had any update as you haven’t heard anything so far, and to let them know that the referral has disappeared from your NHS App.

If you know which gynaecology team you have been referred to you can also call the hospital’s main number and ask to be put through to the gynaecology secretaries. They should be able to look up your details and advise of the progress with your referral.

If you have any issues with this you can speak with the PALS team or equivalent at the hospital you have been referred to for their help. You should be able to find their contact details, and possibly those of the gynaecology service, on the hospital website.

If your pain or bleeding has changed in any way since you last saw your GP you can call 111 over the weekend and ask to be re-assessed for the management of the symptoms you have. You don’t need to wait until your GP reopens, but it is a good idea to let your GP know if you have been seen by the 111 team and what they have advised.

I do hope you hear soon and that you are able to get some help with your symptoms.

    Best wishes

    Linda, Cancer Information Nurse specialist.
