Hi there,  lm new here.

I'm extremely worried about my husband as a recent routine blood test showed elevated ggt and alp in his liver. A few weeks later they were up a little more so now he needs an ultrasound.

He doesn't drink or take any medication and isn't overweight.  He feels absolutely fine and has no symptoms.

I've been googling and needless to say it has freaked me out so much.

I'd love any more info please.

  • Hi Findol,

Thank you for getting in touch with us today. My name is Lindsey, I am one of the Cancer Information Nurses with Macmillan Cancer Support.

I see that you are new to the online community. I hope you find it a helpful and supportive place.

I am sorry to hear that your husband is having ongoing investigations for elevated Liver Blood Tests. Having tests means you have to wait for results and this is naturally an anxious time for you both.

It would be usual that the next step is an ultrasound to give the doctors more information. It is a safe, simple and painless imaging test of the liver and surrounding area and takes 10 to 15 mins to complete.

It must be a difficult time for you both. Things that may help you cope are to eat well, exercise when you can and get sleep (talk to your GP if sleeping is difficult).

You can get back in contact by email or webchat if you need further information or support. The Macmillan support Line offers practical, clinical, financial and emotional support. You can call us free from landlines and from most mobile networks on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am -8pm.

    Kind Regards,

    Lindsey
