I have just been diagnosed with womb cancer and have been told that I am unable to have surgery because of my heart condition, because of anaethetics and post operative risks and bleeding. My heart issue is LV impairment - ejection 20%.  I have pacemaker and get about OK. How do  I find out if any other options are available - as i was given the impression that the Merina coil i have fitted was all they could do. I am 74 yrs old

  • Dear Redren

Welcome to our online community, I notice you have joined a couple of our forums, and we hope you are going to find this a helpful and supportive place to visit.

My name is Luzia and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line. Thank you for your question about the treatment of womb cancer.

Here at the Macmillan Support Line, we can give general advice and support. We are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records so can’t give personalised information.

I am sorry that you are newly diagnosed with cancer, this is a very difficult time for most people as it often has a significant emotional impact.

I understand that due to your heart condition you are not able to have an operation for the Womb Cancer. The team will look at many factors when planning your treatment options. It depends on people’s general health, the type and size of the tumour and if the cancer has begun to spread. Hormonal Therapy such as a coil is very common for several scenarios including if people are unable to have surgery. Other treatments are often available depending on the situation. Here is further information from the NHS website.

To prepare for appointments, people often find it useful to write down questions to ask. Maybe once you have read all the information, you could call your Clinical Nurse Specialist or consultant and discuss any remaining questions that you have in regards to your treatment.

This must be a very difficult time for you. Please call one of our nurses directly if you want to talk over your situation. We may then be able to give you further information.

    Take care,

    Luzia
