I was not told about this whilst I was in hospital or when going home. I only found out about it when I spoke to a STOMA nurse, due to the fact that I had that gut feeling when you need to pass something and was told to si† on the toilet!

Anyone else have probs with this issue?

  • Hi Fatz,

Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Sarah and I’m one of the cancer information nurse specialists.

That must have been a bit of a shock to you when you noticed mucous following your surgery, especially as not being told this can happen. You did the right thing by getting in touch with your stoma nurse, and I do hope they were able to but your mind at rest that this is normal.

Colostomy UK has information that you might find useful to read if you haven’t already read it.

I’m happy to see you have already connected with other people on our online community and hope you are feeling supported.

I really hope this information was helpful, but if there is anything else we can help you with please don’t hesitate to get back in touch. If it’s right for you, you can always give us a call to talk things through further.

    Take care and best wishes,

    Sarah (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
