  • Hi Black pool,

My name is Keith and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists

Welcome to our online community helpful.

This sounds like a really worrying time for you right now

I can only imagine what’s going through your mind right now. It’s OK not to be OK right now. There is no rule book in how you deal with this.

After a cancer diagnosis, you may find the idea of talking about it upsetting or uncomfortable. It may take you some time to accept your diagnosis.

It’s important you get the proper support. This can be from your treatment team (specialist nurse) or a relative friend or loved one. But it’s also important to deal with this in your own way and let people know when your ready to talk.

Telling your sister may be difficult but I’m sure she would want to support you in any way she can. But as I have already said there is no rule book, do what’s right for you. But having the support of your loved ones/family/friends can usually make this situation a little easier.

We have a relationship with BUPA who can in some situations provide counselling which may help to give you some further emotional support. Have a look at this information and see what you think.

If you think it may be helpful why not give our support line a call and have a chat with one of our nurses. This will provide you with a safe space to talk through how you are feeling right now.

I hope this information is helpful and has answered your questions.
