Dear Ginkobiloba
Thank you for getting in touch with us and welcome to our Online Community, we hope you find this a safe and supportive space. I’m Sue one of the cancer information nurse specialists.
It sounds like you are really struggling, but it’s difficult for us to fully understand the type of support you are looking for, so we can best help you.
Because you are unable to eat or drink because of your throat cancer it’s really important to seek medical advice straightaway. We would encourage getting in touch with your hospital team consultant or clinical nurse specialist, as they are best placed to be able to directly help you. If you are unable to get in touch with them directly, please do call NHS 111, or your GP who will also be able to assess your needs and support you.
When someone is unable to eat or drink because of cancer, or as a result of cancer treatment, there are alternative methods which can be offered. Tube feeding (enteral nutrition) can help someone when they are struggling with eating and drinking. There are different types used, dependent on someone’s individual needs and it may only be required for a short time to help provide the right nutritional and fluid intake.
I hope this information is helpful and please don’t hesitate to get back in touch with us for further support, there are lots of ways we can help.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please get in touch by email, webchat or phone. The Macmillan Support Line offers practical, clinical, financial, and emotional support. You can call us free from landlines and from most mobile phone networks* on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am – 8pm.
Sending best wishes
Sue
