  • Dear Marce

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support and welcome to our online community. My name is Joanne, and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s.

I’m sorry to hear that you have lost part of a filling whilst you are having EC chemotherapy for breast cancer. You are right to ask the question about if you can have the filling repaired.

Your chemotherapy will affect your blood counts and dental procedures need to be planned so that they happen when your immunity is at it’s best and your platelet count is high enough to reduce the risk of bleeding.

We would recommend you inform your oncology team so that they can arrange for you to have bloods taken to check your counts. You should also inform your dentist that you are receiving chemotherapy.

If you are in pain and require urgent dental treatment, we would recommend you contact your urgent oncology 24 hour number for advice and inform any out of hours dentist you see that you are on chemotherapy.

I hope this advice is helpful however, if there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

    Joanne,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
