I was told today at chemo that my liver function was a slight concern. Other than drinking more water and eating more oats and green left veg is there anything I can do to improve it?
thanks

Hi Snoopy78,
Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the Macmillan Support Line.
I am sorry to hear your liver function is a slight concern whilst receiving chemotherapy treatment.
Some chemotherapy drugs can affect how your liver, kidneys, heart and lungs work. That is why your chemotherapy team will continue to monitor your bloods throughout your treatment.
It may also be an idea to ask your hospital team if they have any specific advice as they continue to monitor your liver function.
The liver is good at repairing itself and, these changes are usually temporary and go back to normal when your treatment ends. However, for some people the changes may be permanent.
If your hospital team think the liver may be damaged, they may lower the dose of your drugs, interrupt or stop treatment to prevent further damage.
General advice though is to avoid alcohol, drink plenty of water and eat a well-balanced diet. You should also eat less fatty, salty, smoked or cured foods.
If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.
Best wishes
David, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
